I like cities best when there is someone interesting to share them with. London gives us rather a lot to work with: a beautiful bar, dinner somewhere we are tempted to linger, a show perhaps, and the particular pleasure of knowing neither of us has to rush anywhere afterwards.

I’m especially fond of dates with enough time for the formal beginning to disappear. Conversation becomes flirting, one drink becomes another, and somewhere along the way the evening starts to feel like ours.
